Axis I meant for clinical disorders and developmental disorders. The Axis I include the disorders like Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Specific Phobia.
Axis II meant for personality disorders or mental retardation. Axis II disorders include the disorders like Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Personality Disorder, Dependent Personality Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder.
Axis III meant for medical/physical conditions or disorders. Hyperthyroidism and Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) mentioned in Axis III
Axis IV indicates such disorders that are contributing or affecting current psychiatric disorder and treatment outcomes like social issues, lack of adequate support system, educational problems, problems with work, financial difficulties, Legal problems and other psychosocial and environmental problems.
In case of Axis V, it is GAF i.e. Global Assessment Functioning. It is 100-point scale for which the mental health professional uses to describe the patient’s overall level of performance in daily activities and response of patient.
Becky has the following disorders
Axis I – social phobia; As Becky does not want to meet the friends and relatives it indicates the social phobia.
Axis – II – Dependant personality disorder: Though Becky does not want the relations, yet she wants support which is lacked from others. She seek the help of dependent.
Axis III – Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) – It is also called murmur syndrome. It is affected to Becky since she is in between the age of 20 to 40. Abnormal heart rhythms, that’s she fears while seeing the blood.
Axis IV- disorder in connection with lack of adequate support system – Becky lacked with the adequate support system.
Axis V- GAF – However Becky is under treatment with health profession, scoring yet to be attained.
It is correct that Becky desires loneliness and wants to keep away from the friend and relatives. She much influenced with her childhood and continues for the years. She has been sent for therapy and resulting that she identifies the need of near persons or friends. But she has not recovered much. Since she has been habituated to live alone, no friend and relatives are nearer to her. Ultimately she used to spend the time on eating and watching on TV without specific goals. Though she has college, Becky reluctant to attend the classes instead want to live alone.
