Understanding the right procedures (part 6)

Conclusion

A study involving 600 juvenile delinquents in West Germany found that “the ratio of relapses was largest among those who went to prison and smallest among those who got off with a warning,” reports The Tribune. Why? Prison wardens interviewed pointed to “the damaging influence arising from contact with older, hardened criminals.” And Warnfried Dettling of the Family Affairs Ministry in Bonn said: “It is in prison that many a career in crime begins in earnest.” Each year about a hundred 14- to 15-year-old delinquents are sent to prison, according to the report. “Most return to crime after their release,” it says.

Indeed, reports from around the world support that fact that young delinquents today end up as the future’s most effective crime offenders when they grow older. This is the particular reason why it is important to reeducate and restore the behavioral sanity of the delinquents as early as possible. Helping them face the consequences of their acts and giving them the hope to change their ways particularly would allow them in having great chances of realizing that doing what is wrong should not be an option for them in the future.

True, taking careful steps in helping the young ones return to their sanity is an important factor that contributes to the definite reduction of the rate of incarcerated personnels belonging to the young generation of the human society. Realigning the path of the young ones to what is right would surely help them to find better ways of making use of their rich lives rather than wasting it in offending the law and staying within the prison homes.

The youthful years are the time by which the young ones are able to shape the future that waits for them. It is through this particular stage in development that the youth could identify themselves as a particular part of the society. Helping them realize that they are a vital part of making a community that is livable by the human society would certainly teach them that they too, as individuals have a responsibility to protect their fellowmen from the dreadful effects of crime and other unlawful acts. This way, they are assisted by the government as well as by the whole society of mankind to live their lives away from transgressions that might lead them to doing what is lawfully wrong.
