Data Analysis Project

This paper presents an analysis of the 2000 and 2005 immigration data as presented by the U.S. Census Bureau. Data for this project analysis was obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau website. The census data on immigrants for the year 2000 indicates the population of people in the U.S. by Sex, Age, and Citizenship Status (U.S.Census Bureau, 2000). This data indicates that there was a larger number of male illegal immigrants (9,123) than female illegal immigrants (8,635) in 2000. In 2005, the number of male illegal immigrants increased to 11358 and that of female immigrants to 10349 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2005). The data also indicates that there was a larger number of illegal immigrants (17,758 in 2000 and 21707 in 2005) as compared to legal immigrants (10,622 in 2000 and 13507 in 2005).

The data does not indicate the year of entry of the immigrants, their country of origin and the States in which they live. In comparison to the 2000 data, the 2005 immigration data is important in analyzing the growth of immigrants in the U.S. It is evident from the data that there is an increased number of immigrants over the five years (between 2000 and 2005). This trend highlights the reason why immigration has always been a heated topic in the United States. Data from both years also indicates that there is an increased number of illegal immigrants (Not citizens) particularly between the age of 35 and 40 in 2000 as indicated by the mode (16.8%) and between the age of 40 and 44 in 2005 as indicated by the mode (7.8%). This data is useful to U.S government officials as they try to deal with the problem of illegal immigration.
