Hypothesis
The hypothesis is a statement or method used by scientist to identify a trend or a theory which they are working on. The hypothesis is mostly used by social scientist to identify the type of behavior which would be prevalent in a society country or group of people. The use of hypothesis is reliant on testing and retesting of expectation against the world. This is a scientific method since it is distinguished from non-science by a system of repeatable testing of expectation against the observable world.
Types of hypothesis
There are two types of hypothesis the qualitative and the quantitative types of hypothesis. The quantitative method of testing is the method used as a focus for quantifications in the social sciences. This is a concept which is used for comparison and testing. This is usually done with a comparison of the test underway and the test which was carried out in the past. This for instance could be done to test the popularity test of a public figure which uses this kind of method in a sense that they send out survey to a number of people who will answer the survey and then they check out how many people in the survey were in agreement to the said question as opposed to the last survey and if this has gone down then they will say that the rating of the said person has gone down vice verse. This is used especially when taking a survey for a presidential candidate or a person vying for a public office. This test is done to check the mood of the public with regards to the said person and if they are liable for election or re-election.
The qualitative type of hypothesis is a method that is used prevalently by many scholars. The qualitative hypothesis is a method of testing that is used by following the basic procedure. This kind of hypothesis involves a careful study of a small group and this observation is treated with detailed context and meaning of the social concept itself. This is done by the generation of the hypothesis through the response found from a specific question asked by the scientist. This is then compared to the observation of the world. This kind of hypothesis basically focuses on the detailed histories and cultural sensitivity. It also focuses on the investigations of different types of hypothesis presented more than focus on the quantitative research.
Conclusion
Both the qualitative hypothesis and the quantitative hypothesis have had a lot of criticism from different sources with the critiques stating that the hypothesis does not really mirror the true feelings of the said society on which the hypothesis is carried out. Among the question which arose from these hypotheses were: to what extent is the observed dip indicative of the general trend or persistence change in approval? There is also the concern of lack of stable world for the observation to be stable and accurately carried out and the kind of tools which are used for this observations. In my opinion, the hypothesis was rejected due to the fact that they focus on the world which is unpredictable. It is not really an easy task to find predictability in anything which is as unstable as the human society. The implication which was found with this type of hypothesis study is that it is all a suspect since the observers cannot be counted on to observe and test the hypothesis without being involved in the things he or she is observing since as the critics say the observation is inseparable from the observer. This being the case there is really no way that you can take a hypothesis on the value of the person who took the survey as it is not easy to be a neutral observer.
