Information Powerhouse for Aggressive Crimes

History, purpose, and objective of the program

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, a United States of America security agency, was established under the precincts of the Department of Justice in 1908. At the time, it was known as Bureau of the investigation. (Theohari, 1999, p.2) However, due to the increased white collar crime and the need to curtail such behaviors, the security agency launched the Violent Crime Apprehension Program (ViCAP) under the auspices of the National Center for the Analysis of increased Violent Crime (NCAVC).

Administration of the program

The program acts as an information powerhouse for unsettled aggressive crimes such as rape, murder among others. (Langbart and Haines, 1993, p210) The underlying significance and objective of the program were to effectively establish perpetrators of violent crimes by posting their profiles for the public to help in investigations. The program would be of importance to our organization since it will ensure a steady flow of statistical data to help in the company’s research activities.

How agencies participate in the program

The representative converse to great lengths how the agencies benefit from the information on individuals that are a threat to the security of the state or have been indicted for fraud in their respective locations. He said such information would be essential; when the department is employing new staff since it possesses the employee’s past criminal record. Information systems provided through the VICAP remarkably help in the dissemination of earlier hidden data. (Hickey, 2003) “Such cases are now being made public in countries that formerly concealed or even denied their existence” (p.420)

Potential benefits of participation in the program for the department and the community

The profiling and resourceful information of criminals will aid the department in the speedy arrests of criminals in the various geographical boundaries. For instance, the dispatch of information by the Rwandan government to the agency on Felicien Kabuga, the genocide suspect, amicably helped in tracing his whereabouts. This, the representative emphasized would enable members of the public to have the information of dangerous criminals in the society. In the Kabuga’s case, the public have been bombarded with his information to help security agencies in tracking his whereabouts (Arrigo and Purcell, 2006, p.146)
